New version of OpenWrt aka v21.02.x, returns the following error / warning during boot for the ZyXEL P-2812HNU-F1.
First found out with own builds. Later also tested the 'clean' version of OpenWrt itself, which has the same issue:

What are the pci detecting differences between v21.02 and v19.07 ?
Or is there an 'overlap' in memory somewhere?

Can't figure out why this happens.

Have to stay at v19.07.x for ZyXEL P-2812HNU-F1 . (? No, see below...)

Btw, when downgrading from v21.xx to v19.xx you need TTL-serial access and an old config-backup!
After flashing v19 code the old config does not work, as changes are (automatically) made on v21.xx's web-interface when going to interfaces, it will adjust and restart network, which won't work on lower level firmwares.

OpenWrt v21.02.0 - wifi fix

For rc.local, another item is added due to the failing / missing pci scan for wifi.

Within System / Startup / Local startup.

Other small issues (done) still to be solved for v21.02:
- htpdate should be removed from build (no start and stop).
- removed 216.58.211.110 from htpdate command in rc.local

OpenWrt v21.02.0 - Adjust network settings

This version automatically adjust bridge and network settings.
When entering Network / Interfaces settings on the web-interface the following 2 screens appear:
1st adjustment of bridge configuration:

Next adjustment of ifname in network configuration:

These tell you that adjustments within /etc/config/network are made and it will restart network (/etc/init.d/network restart).
Therefore you need an old config backup when downgrading (back to v19.xx), if even possible.

First runs look fine with the rc.local adjustment to activate wifi.
Only 19 - 22 MB free after fully booted? Testing how fast is will run out of mem...

Q's:
- Should we run the tiny Tor version?
- What should we run more on the TorRouter, if possible?

OpenWrt v21.02.0 - Automatically adjusted network settings

We've tested v21.02.0 and it works, with the adjustments written above.
Adjusted our build environment (removed htpdate from boot/startup, and adjusted it's ip settings within rc.local).

Next we test a regular update from v19.07.7 to v21.02.0 on another device.
The first update bricked my device, had to open it and use TTL-serial to fix it (was still on 2MB mtd istead of 3MB ?).
See if it works and if rc.local get merged with new and adjusted rule in it...

Second update bricked device again, due to wrong NAND settings (2MB instead of 3MB kernel settings in u-boot).
After adjusting in u-boot environment:

OpenWrt v21.02.0 - BEFORE updating ZYXEL P-2812HNU-F1 to v21.02.0

Remarks:
- You CAN NOT directly update to v21.02.0 ! Your device will get bricked and need to be opened and TTL-serial is needed to fix this.
- Update can be done without TTL-serial, although its better to have it ready.
- If on OpenWrt before v18.xx first update to at least v18.06.2
- install uboot-envtools. On TorRouter add a DNS to active WAN port to enable update & install packages.
If you can not install the uboot-envtools, or won't get it working correctly, TTL-serial is needed!
Afterwards needs a check if these are the correct settings (there must be NO warning within fw_printenv command.)
Below is working fw_env.config example for ZyXEL P-2812HNU-F1.

If you are ok with the Remarks, you can try updating without TTL-serial connection as follows:

Start at point 6 of Installing OpenWrt on OpenWrt
There is the firmware image of Mafketel mentioned. Use this image 'in between' v18 (or lower) and the new v21.02.0 image.

On putty:
- check uboot-environment with command: fw_printenv
- this should have a rule with: nboot=nand read 0x80800000 0x60000 0x200000; bootm 0x80800000
- enter the following command to change the nboot rule:

(fw_setenv also uses saveenv in the background)

(could be shown at the bottom this time)

DO NOT reboot your device now, it will fail to boot and get bricked !!! TTL-serial is only option to fix it.

Next on the upgrade OpenWrt web-page (System - Backup /Flash Firmware - Flash new firmware image):
- leave 'Keep settings' is ok (on later versions this is asked later in update proces)
- click 'Flash image...' and select first the image of Mafketel squashfs-sysupgrade.bin file

The ssh session will not show any info before loosing connection, TTL-serial does show the update proces (example below).

After 'Continue', the router will upgrade from RAM then reboot, use the right uboot-parameter and boot Mafketels version.
The router should also return to the same web interface (if you keep the settings), Luci is also within Mafketels version.
Next on the web-gui you can upgrade to v21.02.0 (or higher) if needed.

The only thing when running v21.02.0 or higher is to get wifi working again:
Add the echo 1 command within rc.local as described above.

When uboot adjustment is forgotten or went wrong but v21.02.0 is applied, here is a TTL-Fix

The first try, without uboot adjustment, after applying Mafketels image (it keeps the settings, btw) updated to v21.0.2 and crashes on TTL level (ERROR: can't get kernel image!), see logs: but here's an easy -TTL- fix!!

Then the same way back should work too? Although v21.02.0 did some network adjustments, so it will be even harder to go back.
Just before flashing older firmware, restore an old config! then set nboot back to 2MB, and test.

OpenWrt v21.02.0 - Defect wifi onboard

WIFI
Failed to adjust wifi settings within v21.02.0 on 1 of 2 devices (weird broken wifi ?).
Even after enable / disable, the settings can't be shown by GUI:

This error is most probably due to failed wifi on this device. lspci returns nothing, wifi settings are automatically adjusted to 11a, this should be 11g. Have to test on other device(s).
