With some minor difficulties (described here) the update was done and everything is working again.
Even had to manually remove and re-install vSphere Client, which is now on level:

As i tested ESXi updates on a USB device, which did NOT work well, i decided to update my current disk-based version ESXi 4.1 to latest patch level.
With some minor difficulties (described here) the update was done and everything is working again.
