Lenovo (EMC - Iomega) IX4-300d NAS

Post by admin »

I bought 1 @ Ebay, actually for about the 'old' price ;)
Image

After seen the price went up for EUR 40+ within 3 months ...

All images from me can be found here:

But, what kinda NAS is this anyway? It has Lenovo or EMC @ right to front, and Iomega @ display startup? :)
See the tiny differences on the follow 2 sites (i wonder how long this will be?):
https://lenovo-na-en.custhelp.com/app/c ... Q0dyNm0%3D
https://lenovo-na-en.custhelp.com/app/c ... Q0dyNm0%3D

Well we already have latest firmware for this device, 1st flash it to latest.

Also have 4 x 4000GB Seagate HDD's ready to fit in, to get a total of 16TB (12TB in RAID5).

My other (fav) sites regarding this device (also GitHUB free code?): Found a nice SSH access tutorial and more tooling for the ix4-300d: Keep you informed here.

There's no EMC on the box, or Iomega on the display, as seen in the picture above.
Only Lenovo (on the box and display) and Lenovo & Iomega on the package :)

Further a nice web-interface:
Image

Some LifeLine Apps which should be there are not downloadable, file not found ...
- BRANDING APP FOR IX4-300D
- RESOURCE MONITOR FOR IX4-300D

One day later the 2 Apps are there! But RESOURCE MONITOR FOR IX4-300D is only 21KB, and no source file available ?
And after trying to install, nothing happened.
Then I check the .supported.platforms_version-file and see, 4.1 is needed ... So we have to wait until the newer firmware is running.
Same for the BRANDING APP FOR IX4-300D, it´s for version 4.1 Firmware (it´s all in tha name).

Others i have ready to install.
- MYSQL SERVER FOR IX4-300D
- PHP FOR IX4-300D
- SECUREMIND SURVEILLANCE MANAGER FOR IX4-300D
- TRANSMISSION TORRENT FOR IX4-300D (with zip patch)

But 1st the primary format, RAID5 reconstruction is running, takes over 48 hours !!
But web-interface is available as also the data, so added a 1TB usb drive and start copying that one first.
Nice copy view on the display, btw. Only pitty that you can not see in the web-interface, whats on the main display.

Next point will be update current firmware 4.0.8.23976, to newer level: 4.1.104.31360, and see if the 1TB stays online.
Also name change and network settings will be adjusted.

Back in 2 days :D

How long takes a 1TB copy?
During RAID5 reconstruction (btw) ...

Just add the usb device to the ix4-300d and a copy action is requested through the main display.
Within the web-interface you can setup where the copy should be placed.
When pressing 'yes' the copy starts.

Code: Select all

11/03/2014 10:03 pm Started Copy Job 'USB_WD_10EADS_External_a_1'.
...
11/04/2014 4:14 pm Copy Job 'USB_WD_10EADS_External_a_1' succeeded.
Around 18 hours ...

Although, i like the staring picture more (without the greyed disks...)

Image

We have to wait until the RAID5 reconstruction is complete to see whats shown then ...

Exactly 48 hours after starting up the device with 4 x 4TB disks, the reconstruction of RAID5 is almost complete, 98% !

Image

As Lenovo writes on their webpage, newer firmware (up from 4.1.102.xxxxx) should speed up reconstruction too:

Ok, the RAID5 reconstruction took 49 hours ... Then the firmware update took place.
First after the update to 4.1.104.31360 a fancy new white web interface shows up, only without the icon images?
Image

But as we also need to change network settings and systemname, we have to reboot again.
All images are now shown:

I also found a Nice tutorial about changing the display ... (Although only for 10 seconds)
Image
Quiet nice, isn't it?

The original i use is:
Image

Found it in stevenbreuls site, here:
http://stevenbreuls.com/2013/04/ssh-acc ... omment-127
But I need to check how to make it permanent.
Maybe 'autobot' gave a nice hint:
http://www.valcolabs.com/2012/02/06/pim ... mment-5080

Within this logo option thing, we have to see what the 'Branding App' does, it requires a picture not larger then:
Image
So, it looks like this is only for to change the logo on the web-interface? we'll see :)

Should make complete topic of this Lenovo box ...

Tried the AXIS Video Hosting System ones, but after some tests disabled this function:
Image

Now just to check the Date & Time settings results in the following:
Image

Clicking 'disable AVHS' is going to the picture above :)

Weird ...
Probably have to reboot the box ones.
Or enable this AVHS and change Date & Time settings there?

As far as i see, this AVHS system has only a 'ON/OFF' function within the webinterface, so where is this setting which has been changed by AVHS??

After removal of the AVHS App, i get the following trying to see or change Date & Time:
404 - Page Not Found Error Message is: "'stls/stls-www/disabled.html' was not found."
Good that my regular backups are still on other NAS ...

Going to reboot the box.
BTW, i red somewhere about not working power button, good time to check this ;)
Short-press on Power button gives on display:
Image
And after a minute or so, the box nicely shut down.
So that works fine :)

Boot it up again with the power button, this works fine, but ...

Now the Date & Time test ... failed,
I'll clear my cache etc ... but i think Date & Time settings within the webinterface is gone.

Also MindTree's SecureMind Surveillance Manager, a 'free' piece of software only capable of using 1 camera, what fun is that?
Even a (simple) single Linux VM does do more ... But its just for checking the software, ok :)
Image

I tried one USB cam, cam is seen, but does not work: Application error.
Ok, its a cheap Chinese cam but did several years good job on my XP machine. Later worked fine within Linux VM.
Image

So i'm probably not going to use this software, but maybe MindTree is messing up with the Date&Time settings?
Will try to remove this App too.
Then i could try to reinstall the latest level firmware again? Also to reset the Date&Time issue.

And .. waiting for a reply from Lenovo.
