Last week i decided (in too short time...) to update my ESXi 6.0.0 to 6.7 and to 7.0
After the first update (to 6.7) 2 of my old USB camera's did not work anymore.
Not a big issue: the most are wifi-camera's and they still work fine
Also the VMware vSphere Client does not connect anymore to the ESXi host, so only the web-interface is available to manage the VM's.
But all VM's (I had 1 that had no data anymore only nr 13... but even don't know which VM that was) are working normally, also after updating the VM's hardware layers to 6.7
I got ESXi 7.0 Update 1 working, although they don't mention the build level anymore...
Here the main screen of the 'server':
As ESXi 7.0 only boots from UEFI ... i can't do a 'normal' reboot anymore, as I have to select the boot device (16GB).
Found in the specs for 7.0 that the boot USB can be 4 or 8 GB but also need additional GB's for vmware-tools etc. (minimum 32GB total).
https://docs.vmware.com/en/VMware-vSphe ... 202FC.html
At the wmare site I can see my ESXi license for 6.0 but for 7.0 I only get 'unable to process your request'.
So the to-do list for ESXi machine will be:
- Get ride of the (some over 20 years old) USB camera's, but some cheap newer ones which will be linux supported.
- Build a 32GB USB ESXi 7.0 boot device (or higher...) and also deploy the depot file (ready in datastore04).
- Fix the License for ESXi 7.0
Eventually:
- Buy new HW, as the i7-2600 CPU is already mentioned during upgrade, that it wont be long supported.

ESXi 7.0 Update 1
Re: ESXi 7.0 Update 1
Did I found a bug?
Mouse over, on the memory size returns: 'Hard disk' ??
(PS: okt 2022 - This is still the case on v6.7U3)

Re: ESXi 7.0 Update 1 ... or go back to 6.7 update 3
The fix license could be a problem for ESXi 7.0 update 1, as the website of VMware still does not let me see the license, as already written above.
For the time being I could build a ESXi 6.7 update 3 version, as I do have a license for that version.
This will impact on all my online servers, for a couple of hours, I think. Downgrade from 7.0 is not possible, I have to create a new clean install of ESXi 6.7 on new USB device.
We make a 6.7 update 3 version on a 32GB USB now (version 7.0 needs 32GB for all extra's to be installed, also written above).

Re: ESXi 7.0 Update 1
This is weird ...
From PC within network we see (arp -a) :
When logged into Fritz!box we see under Network:
When did we change the MAC addresses ? Why so close together?
ESXi Host however returns:
What the F... is wrong ?
I know, we use also AMT on the same eth port, different ip.
This could cause this strange behaviour.
We should (have to!) add an extra eth port... (&vlan?) Or disable AMT on ESXi Host. (but how to take over screen then? KVM -> eth ...)

Code: Select all

192.168.11.5 xx-52-yy-zz-5e-03 dynamic (ESXi ip)

Re: ESXi 7.0 Update 1
First PSOD within 2 months, hmmm...
We have to build new ESXi6.7U3 USB device, 32GB.
Further on ESXI6.7 U3
